five second test

About Five Second Tests

Five second tests are simple usability tests that help you measure the effectiveness of your designs.

Conducting a five second test allows you to find out which parts of your designs are the most prominent. You can do this in two ways:

All you need to do is upload a design you want to test and choose the type of test you want to run. You will be given a unique link that you can share with friends and colleagues and have them do your test. Of course, you can always just let our random users do your test for really fast feedback!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who are random testers and why should I let them participate in my test?

A. When someone visits the fivesecondtest home page, or completes a five second test they are prompted to complete a random test. You can choose whether or not you want your test to be accessible to random testers. More testers = more results!

Q. What are the upgrade options?

A. Whilst free tests are great, we also offer Bronze, Silver and Gold test upgrades. These upgrades not only give you access to extra features, but also increase the number of results you will receive and the speed at which you'll get them.

Q. What do custom instructions allow me to do? (Gold and Silver Tests Only)

A. Free tests always ask the user to locate the most prominent elements of the design. Sometimes however it's more useful to be testing a specific element (e.g. a sign up button). Custom instructions allow you to prompt testers to look for specific elements and allow you to give your tests more context.

Some examples of custom Instructions:
- Where would you click to register?
- What are the main product options?
- Where are our stores located?

Q. What is additional feedback useful for? (Gold Tests Only)

A. Additional feedback allows you to ask testers an additional question after they have completed your test. You have the option of showing them your test image again, or ask them to rely on their memory alone!

Some examples of additional feedback questions:
- Was the register link easy to find?
- What is our company's slogan?
- What was the price of our main product?
